Lot 1220
1913. NGC graded Proof 65. CAC. PQ. A near perfect coin with lovely toning. Boldly struck and undergraded with virtually perfect surfaces and clearly well preserved for this rare Proof issue. The strike is full and sharp. These Indian Five Proofs diminished in production year after year from their introduction in 1908 as most collectors were not used to this highly stylized design with incuse devices and failed to move with the times into the Matte Proof format. This was understandable given the times. Today, their artistic rendering is considered not only elegant, but a bold break with past traditions in a most spendid way. This coin should be graded a point or two higher! Watch the action. Only 99 Struck. Pop 4; 20 finer, 9 in 66, 1 in 66+, 9 in 67, 1 in 68. Estimate Value $25,000 - UP
